Digital Subscription
What is a Digital Subscription?
A digital subscription is a recurring billing model in which customers pay regularly for continued access to digital products, services, or content. Common examples include streaming platforms, software applications, fitness and wellbeing apps, online learning platforms, and digital publications.
Unlike physical product subscriptions, which involve the delivery of tangible goods, digital subscriptions are typically managed through entitlements. Entitlements define what a customer is permitted to access, such as specific content, features, services, or usage limits, based on their subscription plan.
Digital subscriptions enable businesses to generate recurring revenue while providing customers with ongoing access to updates, new content, enhanced functionality, and personalised experiences. They are widely used in SaaS (Software as a Service), media, entertainment, education, and other digital-first industries.
Example: A customer may subscribe to a video streaming service for a monthly fee, gaining access to its content library and any new features released during their subscription period.
