Entitlements (for digital subs)
What are Entitlements in a Digital Subscription?
Entitlements are the digital permissions or access rights granted to a customer based on their subscription plan, billing status, or successful payment. They determine what a customer can access and for how long, such as premium content, software features, online services, or connected device functionality.
In subscription commerce, entitlements ensure that a customer's access accurately reflects the subscription they have purchased. When a subscription is activated, renewed, upgraded, downgraded, paused, or cancelled, the associated entitlements can be updated automatically to grant, modify, or revoke access as required.
Entitlements are a core component of digital subscription and hybrid (phygital) business models because they connect billing and customer access. This enables businesses to securely deliver tiered plans, premium features, exclusive content, usage limits, and other subscription-based benefits while maintaining a seamless customer experience.
