What should I do before discontinuing a product?

How to safely discontinue a subscription product

Before deleting or changing a product in Shopify, move all active subscribers to a replacement product.

Unlike a one-time purchase, a subscription is linked to a specific Shopify product variant. Deleting that variant while subscriptions are still using it can cause upcoming orders to be skipped or move subscriptions into a failed state during the next billing attempt.

Step 1: Create a Bulk Action to replace products

In the Yari Flow Dashboard, go to: Automations > Bulk Actions

Use Bulk Actions, create a new bulk action with a action to swap from a product to another product.

Step 2: Swap subscribers to the replacement product

Run a bulk action with the swap action to move all affected subscribers from the discontinued variant to the replacement variant.

Complete the swap before any upcoming subscription orders are processed.

Step 3: Remove the product from Selling Plans

Go to: Plan Groups

Select the intended Plan Group and remove the discontinued product from the group.

Deleting a product in Shopify does not automatically remove it from Yari Flow Selling Plans. If this step is skipped, the product may continue to appear as a subscription purchase option.

Step 4: Delete the product in Shopify

After all affected subscriptions have been updated and the product has been removed from its Plan Groups, it is safe to delete the product or variant in Shopify.
